Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Remember a day when you were explaining something on projector screen in the meeting and unwanted notification got displayed or information you want to hide got displayed to whole audience. To avoid such events read further….

If you routinely work with several windows open at a time, you might be wondering what it would take to use multiple monitors to improve your productivity. In this article, I’ll explain how to work on two monitors. If you take your Laptop to meetings, you’ve probably used it to display documents, such as agendas, or presentations.

The most common way to give a presentation is to connect your Laptop to a projector by using a VGA cable. You can use one of two modes to project your desktop on a projector screen:

Mirrored mode: In this mode, you can see same display on projector screen as well as Laptop screen.

Extended Desktop mode: In this mode, you can extend your Laptop screen space by using an additional display (whether a monitor or a projector screen). You can then use each screen independently. This mode is well suited for presentations because you can display the slides on one screen (usually the projector), and then hide notifications of outlook, Skype and other miscellaneous applications, and complete other tasks, such as taking notes on your Laptop screen or even you can chat with someone or write a mail without displaying it on the projector screen. This mode is also very useful when you want to extend your workspace while using your Laptop at your desk.

Before you perform the steps below, plug the secondary monitor into the external VGA port of your Laptop and then place your Laptop (the primary monitor) close to the secondary monitor to ensure swifter navigation between screens. Now follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Right-click on the desktop screen of your laptop PC.
  2. Select the Properties menu option, the Display Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Select the Settings tab.
  4. Click the blue rectangle with the number 2 (which represents the external monitor), and then select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor check box.
  5. Drag the slider to the right to change the screen resolution of Monitor 2 to 1024 by 768 pixels, under Screen resolution.
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. Click the Yes button when prompted for the confirmation.

Once your monitor is set up, you can use your mouse to grab the title bar of a window and drag it to your new display. If window does not move when you drag it, double-click the title bar first, and then drag it.

Having two monitors will forever change the way you work with your computer. Be creative and experiment with the sizing of application windows and keep the information in constant view while doing multiple tasks.

Customer Speaks

Our Team Lead from Q3 was in Chicago with AMB this week. We have been involved in many demonstrations and meetings with customers and partners including Microsoft. We have been asking a lot of the Q3 AMB Team and they have surpassed my expectations on deliverables and efforts to deliver new features and functions, such as the new Address Correction, Cross Database, the e-commerce website, new data sources, testing - this product is near impossible to break, and more. These have been important for all of our prospects, customers and business partnerships.

I truly thank the team for their professionalism, efforts beyond most others and retaining a great and excited attitude and work ethic. Though I must say they have worked with these ethics and strength from their first days on this project.

For these reasons AMB has very long plans for utilizing Q3 and this team for years to come. Thank you, Q3 AMB Team !!
