Network security is a self-contradicting philosophy where you need to give absolute access and at the same time provide absolute security. Any enterprise needs to secure itself from two types of access of information: internal access and external access. Securing the access of information or resources from the external world is quite a task to master that is where the need for firewalls comes in. The firewalls act as gatekeepers. It segregates the intrusive and non-intrusive requests and allows access of information. Configuring & maintaining a firewall is by itself a task, which needs experience and knowledge. There are no hard and fast rules to instruct the firewalls, it depends on the source of firewall installation and how the enterprise intends to provide access to information/resources.
Every organization providing outsourced software development services needs to decide for itself that where they need to be between the two extremes of total security and total access. A policy needs to articulate this, which defines how it will be enforced. Everything that is done in the name of security must be enforced. It is an excellent idea to employ both control system engineers and IT specialists to work together to maintain the network. If you are unable to employ individuals, you may outsource the positions. The team should schedule risk analysis on a regular basis, implement change control and monitor the network regularly. Additionally, create policies and procedures that describe and outline risk mitigation, alert vectors, and actions to be taken if any type of security breach is detected. Furthermore, your operating staff should know exactly who to contact in the case of a breach or attack on the security of the network.

What’s the Password?
Today our entire online presence demands passwords prior to doing a given task from banking to paying bills to entering social networks and media. No logon or password, and you are stuck in no man’s land!
However, not any password will do. Today we need strong passwords that are not easy to decrypt and frankly often not easy to remember. We all don’t know how many passwords and logons we use at any given time, but it’s a lot.
However, there are some tricks of the trade which we will explore below. Do not use the same password on multiple accounts. Obviously, if one of your accounts gets cracked, the hacker will have easy access to the others. A good password is an investment in protection your computer and vital information! So do not skimp on your investment.
Why Strong Passwords Are Needed?
The answer is really a no brainer. The bad guys are extremely sophisticated at what they do. A strong password should appear to be a random string of characters to an attacker. It should be 14 characters or longer, (eight characters or longer at a minimum). It should include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
Hackers have many approaches to steal your passwords and thus your data. They use the so-called “dictionary” attack trying one word after another with the expectation that users at many sites will pick a word in the dictionary for their password. Obviously for good reason this is not a good idea.
Hackers also use “brute force” attack by automatically trying every combination of letters, numbers, and symbols that can be used as a password. The shorter your password, the fewer the combinations they need to check.
What Makes a Good Password?
Bottom-line, passwords should be at least 8 characters in length keeping in mind that the shorter your password, the easier it is to crack. Passwords should contain a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters
(:~!@#$%^&*()_+{}[]|<>). Do not use a word that can be found in a dictionary whether foreign or specialty terms. Very importantly, the password should be different from your logon or any permutation of it. Also, don’t pick names or nicknames of people, pets, places, or personal information that can be easily found out, such as your address, birthday, or hobbies. And stay away from common keyboard sequences, such as gwerty1 or abc123. If you are thinking about making a password by just adding a digit to your favorite word, don’t do it, and Do Not Give Your Password to Anyone!
Why You Need to Change Your Password periodically?
It is a good idea to change your passwords on a regular basis. This way if hackers have been trying to crack your code they will be stymied as you have broken their pattern. It is just good common sense to protect your assets
to the best of your ability and not get lazy about it. The strength of your password will help keep it good for a longer time. A password that is shorter than 8 characters should be considered only good for a week or so, while
a password that is 14 characters or longer (and follows the other rules outlined above) can be good for several years.
Password Checker
Your online accounts, computer files, and personal information are more secure when you use strong passwords to help protect them.

Remember a day when you were explaining something on projector screen in the meeting and unwanted notification got displayed or information you want to hide got displayed to whole audience. To avoid such events read further….
If you routinely work with several windows open at a time, you might be wondering what it would take to use multiple monitors to improve your productivity. In this article, I’ll explain how to work on two monitors. If you take your Laptop to meetings, you’ve probably used it to display documents, such as agendas, or presentations.
The most common way to give a presentation is to connect your Laptop to a projector by using a VGA cable. You can use one of two modes to project your desktop on a projector screen:
Mirrored mode: In this mode, you can see same display on projector screen as well as Laptop screen.
Extended Desktop mode: In this mode, you can extend your Laptop screen space by using an additional display (whether a monitor or a projector screen). You can then use each screen independently. This mode is well suited for presentations because you can display the slides on one screen (usually the projector), and then hide notifications of outlook, Skype and other miscellaneous applications, and complete other tasks, such as taking notes on your Laptop screen or even you can chat with someone or write a mail without displaying it on the projector screen. This mode is also very useful when you want to extend your workspace while using your Laptop at your desk.
Before you perform the steps below, plug the secondary monitor into the external VGA port of your Laptop and then place your Laptop (the primary monitor) close to the secondary monitor to ensure swifter navigation between screens. Now follow the steps mentioned below:
- Right-click on the desktop screen of your laptop PC.
- Select the Properties menu option, the Display Properties dialog box opens.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Click the blue rectangle with the number 2 (which represents the external monitor), and then select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor check box.
- Drag the slider to the right to change the screen resolution of Monitor 2 to 1024 by 768 pixels, under Screen resolution.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Yes button when prompted for the confirmation.
Once your monitor is set up, you can use your mouse to grab the title bar of a window and drag it to your new display. If window does not move when you drag it, double-click the title bar first, and then drag it.
Having two monitors will forever change the way you work with your computer. Be creative and experiment with the sizing of application windows and keep the information in constant view while doing multiple tasks.

As an everyday user of technology, there are certain measures you should take regularly to ensure that your information is protected from malicious people and hackers. We recommend that you follow these simple, common-sense precautions to reduce your exposure and protect your system.
1. Do not open e-mail attachments from an unknown, suspicious, or untrustworthy source. If you are not familiar with the sender, do not open, download, or execute any files or e-mail attachments.
2. Do not open an e-mail attachment unless you know what it is, even if it appears to come from a friend or someone you know. Some viruses replicate themselves and spread via e-mail. Stay on the safe side and confirm that the attachment was sent from a trusted source before you open it.
3. Do not open any e-mail attachments if the subject line is questionable. If you feel that the attachment may be important to you, always save the file to your hard drive before you open it.
4. Delete chain e-mails and other spam from your inbox. It is best not to forward or reply to messages like these. Unsolicited, intrusive mail clogs up networks, may contain annoying or offensive content, and may result in security and privacy risks.
5. Exercise caution when downloading files from the Internet. Make sure that the website is legitimate and reputable. Verify that an anti-virus program has checked the files on the download site. If you have any doubts, do not download the file at all. If you download software from the Internet, be especially vigilant of free software, which often carries adware or other potentially unwanted content along with it. Be especially wary of screensavers, games, browser add-ons, peer-to-peer (P2P) clients, and any downloads claiming to be “cracked” or free versions of expensive applications, such as Adobe® PhotoShop® or Microsoft® Office. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
6. Avoid downloads from non-web sources altogether. The chances of downloading infected software from Usenet groups, IRC channels, instant messaging clients, or P2P is very high. Links to websites seen in IRC and instant messaging also frequently point to infectious downloads. Avoid obtaining your software from these sources.
7. Update your anti-virus software often. Threats are on the increase and they are constantly evolving. Hundreds of viruses are discovered each month. To make sure that you are protected against the newest breed of threats, update your anti-virus software frequently. That means downloading the latest virus signature files and the most current version of the scanning engine.
8. Back-up your files frequently. If a virus infects your files, at least you can replace them with your back-up copy. It is a good idea to store your back-up files in another secured physical location away from your computer.
9. Update your operating system, Web browser, and e-mail program on a regular basis. For example, you can get Microsoft® security updates for Microsoft® Windows® and Microsoft® Explorer at http://www.microsoft.com/security.
10. Do not open messages or click on links from unknown users in your instant messaging program. Instant messaging can be a vehicle for transmitting viruses and other malicious code, and it is another means of initiating phishing scams.
11. Change passwords regularly for your windows account. Trojan Worms can begin using your common passwords to breach into your systems and shared folders and infect files and make your and IT engineers life miserable within minutes.

Today, Google is an indispensable search tool for millions of people, in all facets of their lives. From work or school, research, movies or art to news and gossips, Google is the go-to search engine.
Instead of just typing in a phrase and wading through page after page of results, there are a number of ways to make your searches more efficient.
Some of these are obvious ones, which you probably know about. But others are lesser-known. Using the few below mentioned tips help you to learn more about, or be reminded of, some of the best ways to get exactly what you’re looking for, and quickly.
Either/or. Google normally searches for pages that contain all the words you type in the search box, but if you want pages that have one term or another (or both), use the OR operator — or use the “|” symbol (pipe symbol) to save you a keystroke. [dumb | little | man]
Quotes. If you want to search for an exact phrase, use quotes. ["dumb little man"] will only find that exact phrase. [dumb "little man"] will find pages that contain the word dumb and the exact phrase “little man”.
Not. If you don’t want a term or phrase, use the “-” symbol. [-dumb little man] will return pages that contain “little” and “man” but that don’t contain “dumb”.
Similar terms. Use the “~” symbol to return similar terms. [~dumb little man -dumb] will get you pages that contain “funny little man” and “stupid little man” but not “dumb little man”.
Wildcard. The “*” symbol is a wildcard. This is useful if you’re trying to find the lyrics to a song, but can’t remember the exact lyrics. [can't * me love lyrics] will return the Beatles song you’re looking for. It’s also useful for finding stuff only in certain domains, such as educational information: ["dumb little man" research *.edu].
Advanced search. If you can’t remember any of these operators, you can always use Google’s advanced search.
Definitions. Use the “define:” operator to get a quick definition. [define:dumb] will give you a whole host of definitions from different sources, with links.
Calculator. One of the handiest uses of Google, type in a quick calculation in the search box and get an answer. It’s faster than calling up your computer’s calculator in most cases. Use the +, -, *, / symbols and parentheses to do a simple equation.
Numrange. This little-known feature searches for a range of numbers. For example, ["best books 2002..2007] will return lists of best books for each of the years from 2002 to 2007 (note the two periods between the two numbers).
Site-specific. Use the “site:” operator to search only within a certain website. [site: dumblittleman. com leo] will search for the term “leo” only within this blog.
Backlinks. The “link:” operator will find pages that link to a specific URL. You can use this not only for a main URL but even to a specific page. Not all links to an URL are listed, however.
Vertical search. You can search for a specialized field in Google instead of searching for a term across all pages on the web. Google has a number of specific searches, allowing you to search within blogs, news, books, and much more:
o Blog Search
o Book Search
o Scholar
o Catalogs
o Code Search
o Directory
o Finance
o Images
o Local/Maps
o News
o Patent Search
o Product Search
o Video
Movies. Use the “movie:” operator to search for a movie title along with either a zip code or U.S. city and state to get a list of movie theatres in the area and show times.
Unit converter. Use Google for a quick conversion, from yards to meters for example, or different currency: [12 meters in yards]
Types of numbers: Google algorithms can recognize patterns in numbers you enter, so you can search for:
o Telephone area codes
o Vehicle ID number (US only)
o Federal Communications Commission (FCC) equipment numbers (US only)
o UPC codes
o Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airplane registration number (US only)
o Patent numbers (US only)
o Even stock quotes (using the stock symbol) or a weather forecast regarding the next five days.
File types. If you just want to search for .PDF files, or Word documents, or Excel spreadsheets, for example, use the “filetype:” operator.
Location of term. By default, Google searches for your term throughout a web page. But if you just want it to search certain locations, you can use operators such as “inurl:”, “intitle:”, “intext:”, and “inanchor:”. Those search for a term only within the URL, the title, the body text, and the anchor text (the text used to describe a link).
Cached pages. Looking for a version of a page the Google stores on its own servers? This can help with outdated or update pages. Use the “cached:” operator.Answer to life, the universe, and everything. Search for that phrase, in lower case, and Google will give you the answer.
